The Apple Quick Time Video Format

Quick Time used to be a proprietary video format for Apple and Mac OS but later on have been used on Windows PC computers as well. It integrates data types such as audio, video and animations, dynamically and in real time, making the video an actual movie. The popular avs 4 you video editing and video converter software provides full support for Quicktime.

Compression algorithms present in QuickTime (at least in early versions 1.5/1.6) are of different nature and purpose. The three main ones are JPEG (photo compression), the video compression (Apple proprietary), and another algorithm dedicated to graphics and animation compression for computer-generated animations.  The Apple QuickTime format allows an interactive display of images at 24 bit, and is able to process video images at 8, 16, and 24-bit, supporting both spatial and temporal compression. Also the format is based on algorithms optimized for animation in general and for computer-generated video graphics. A great example of multimedia video tool is avs4you package which includes 18 multimedia (video, audio, data, image etc) software in one single package.

QuickTime format is great for multimedia products (such as CD ROM or interactive video), but can also carry digital video projects, although without a hardware compression is virtually indispensable for full motion.

In recent years major improvements have taken this format to a higher level of performance.  Desktop video streaming is now also used with this video format, especially on Apple platforms. Now the package supports variable bit rate MP3 files, can play MIDI files (with additional sounds for size GS), supports new codecs, 3D graphics and effects and panoramic 360 angles (QTVR).
